John Hood was born in Melbourne in 1931. After graduating in Medicine from Melbourne University, he moved to Sydney. During a career as a Specialist Anaesthetist, he regularly wrote scientific papers for medical and scientific journals

      He loves all forms of musical theatre. The first live ballet that he saw was Swan Lake Act 2, with Peggy Sager as the Swan Queen.

      After retiring from Medicine, he began writing two books about the performing arts. Peggy Sager, Prima Ballerina is the first of these.
